Innovation takes time and space

Be Less Zombie Sketchnote

In the book “Be Less Zombie: How Great Companies Create Dynamic Innovation, Fearless Leadership and Passionate People,” author Elvin Turner argues that 60- to 70-hour workweeks leave little time for full-time employees to dedicate to meaningful innovation. Innovation requires time—you can’t squeeze it in around the edges and hope it works. To explore innovation, he advocates for dedicated resources and capabilities. It’s better to have two full-time team members dedicated to innovation, he argues, then six people trying to fit it in between their other responsibilities.

Do you agree? What strategies do you employ to instigate innovation in the workplace?
